ADHD: Emotional problems may be the missing link

That said, it is now becoming clearer that a problem with regulating emotions is a core symptom of ADHD, and not simply a co-occurring issue
— Sahakian and Langley, para. 20.

If you have ADD or ADHD, there is a likelihood you may also have trouble regulating your emotions.

HeartMath is a simple yet powerful tool for improving emotional regulation and reducing stress, backed by over 30 years of research. It combines three things: breath, a renewing emotion, like gratitude or appreciation, and small segments of time. This is called coherence training, shifting us from an incoherent (disordered) state to a more coherent one (harmonious/ordered).

I first learned about HeartMath in 2021, while working on this paper about sound, healing, and ADD. Their research blew my mind, and concretized energetic experiences I’ve had that I couldn’t explain, but I knew were real. I’ve been a fan of HeartMath ever since. It felt like a natural next step to become a HeartMath certified practitioner. Their Inner Balance sensor makes tracking sessions and personal stats very enjoyable—for those of us who are geeky like that :) But the holistic benefits of heart coherence can be gleaned with or without technology.
